How long are you planning to keep it? I'm a fan of dealer servicing, even though in Australia it's a costly endeavor. What is the cost difference between the independent shop and the dealer? What is the difference you're willing to pay?
My car is due for a 105K service, and when I rang up to book at the VW dealer, they quoted around $1800 for the service, timing belt and water pump.
Now my car is out of warranty, so I'm hesitant to pay that much for this service.
I've read a few positive posts here about Volkshome in Thomastown, which would be super convenient, as that's very close to where I live. Was thinking of getting a quote from them, and see how they fare.
Has anyone had any experience with Volkshome? Any good/bad experiences? Or any other mechanics to recommend?
And seeing as my car is out of warranty, is there any point at still servicing at the dealer?
Thanks.

I would take it to an independent VAG specialist.
I think they would do a better job also.
Just bear in mind they sometimes aren't as cheap as you expect, do make sure you get a quote.
I also supply my own oil, so I have a little left over to top up. Good thing about dealer servicing is you can pop in anytime to top up the oil.
